I have been both a mom and an entrepreneur since 1995. It has worked great for me, my family and my family’s finances. I learned how to do it all by learning the right knowledge, finding the right tools, and taking the proper action. I have learned through trial and error over the years about what works and what doesn’t work. What works for my family and what doesn’t work. I have read and re-read many books and listened to many entrepreneurs talk about their successes and failures. Let me share with you everything that I know, so that you are able to jumpstart your business and take years off of your learning curve and possible avoid many of the failures that I experienced throughout my own journey.

What is a service business?

A service business is taking your skills and your talents and using them to help someone else, to help another company or an individual. A service business can be a coach, consultant, virtual assistant, trainer, freelance programmer, scrapbooker, teacher. Anything where you are taking what you know and using that to help someone else.

Why are service businesses the best businesses to start?

There are many different types of business you can start. You could create a service business, you could create  a product and sell it, you could create an internet business, you could write and sell a book, you could be an affiliate and sell other people’s products.

There are many choices, but I really like to concentrate on service businesses because it is a great way for people to take what they know and use that to help someone else. You are taking everything that you’ve learned over the years, things that you enjoy doing and sharing that knowledge with others by creating a solution. You are solving their problems and working with their challenges to come up with solutions for them to grow.

It’s a good idea to pick a service that is in alignment with your passions, which is what I like to teach. You use your skills and share your passion and by doing this you are giving back to society.  You are sharing with others and saying, “Here, this is what I know, and I want to help you”.  I’m going to share with you what I know, and everything I’ve learned.

Another reason service businesses are so great is that it doesn’t take much to get started. You could create a product, but to get started you would need a prototype, a fulfillment center, a warehouse, etc. This takes money, but with a service business you are just taking yourself and what you know. You are just marketing yourself and sending out your message to your prospects and telling them what you know and what you can do for them.

There’s very little overhead and start-up costs.
