Tomorrow I have major surgery. I am having a tendon put into my knee to replace a torn ligament. I am so nervous. I absolutely despise and distrust all doctors. I have no faith that they are putting my best interests at heart. I know, they go through all this schooling and really know the workings of my knee much better than I do, but they don’t know ME. They don’t know what I want me knee to be able to do on a daily basis.

If you haven’t already guessed by my nervousness, this will be the first major surgery of my life. Apparently, having my wisdom teeth pulled as a teenager was not considered major surgery. It seemed pretty major to me, but I guess in comparison to other surgeries it was pretty minor.

I had never heard of an ACL before, which is the name of the ligament that popped in my knee back in February when I was skiing. The doctor explained to me what it was. Since then, I have spoken to MANY people who have torn their ACL. Some of whom actually live on my street!! I never would have known all these people had torn ACL, if I hadn’t torn my own. Come to find out, this is a very common occurence despite the fact that I didn’t even know I had one in the first place.

It’s funny how our internal camera in our brain focuses and concentrates on what we want to see. My brain didn’t notice anything about the knee before February. I had heard of people injuring their knees, but I never really thought much about it. I never paid attention when they talked about it. It didn’t hit my radar.

My camera (brain) has really been focusing on knees a great deal more now. I pay attention when people mention pain in their knee or talk about knee surgery. My radar in this area has been heightened. I even notice how my knee shifts when I walk. Ew!

The same goes for everything in our life and in our business. We concentrate on what we know and what we want to know. Our radar focuses on what our subconscious and conscious mind tells it to focus on. If you want to grow your business, you first need to grow as a person. You need to realize what it is that you need to focus on for your business to grow.

If you are working hard and feeling like you aren’t getting anywhere, chances are that you are focusing on the wrong things. Take a step back from everything and look at your situation from a different angle. Learn what you are missing, and try to focus on new things.

Ask your mentors what they find important. You may learn that they are focusing on things you hadn’t ever thought of before.
