There are so many different ways to build your list. Everywhere you look, you can find new ideas. My problem can sometimes be focus. When I read or hear about a new idea, I want to get started on it right away. The problem with this is that in order for a strategy to work, you need to remain consistent with it. Consistency and persistence are the two keys to a successful List Building Campaign. Yet with all these ideas, list building and traffic are still the number 1 problems with growing a business. Without traffic and without a great list of clients or customers, you don’t really have a very successful business.
Here’s a picture of all the listbuilding products that show up on just page 1 of a Google Image search:

This is what I do to get a handle on the problem:
I have a document on my computer called List Building Strategies. Whenever I hear of a new idea that seems to be something I might be interested in implementing someday, I add it to my document.
I only work on one new strategy at a time. I try to learn all I can about that strategy as best I can before using it. I will then add it to my repertoire. The key is to keep utilizing the strategy on a consistent basis. I don’t try to add a new idea until I have a handle on the ones I am already using. Some strategies can go on auto-pilot while others require consistent work on my part.
For example, when I set up a partnership with someone where we swap space on each other’s thank you pages, I can set it up to be a “set it and forget it” strategy. I continuously get new people on my list on a consistent basis.
Another strategy I implemented is to submit articles to websites. Whenever someone reads my article they can click to my website for more info or to join my list. This strategy can be on auto-pilot if I want to just use my currently submitted articles, but I found the strategy works best when I submit new articles every month. This is something that requires consistent work on my part.
Once I feel a certain strategy is working well for me, I might just continue with that to keep that strategy going, and I try to learn and improve on it to get it working even better.
Occasionally, I decide it is time to add a new strategy because I have the time, or I just want to bump up my list faster. That is when I go back to my document and choose another strategy.
It’s important when I choose strategies that I choose ideas that fit my personality and the style of my niche. Some will work better for me and my business than others. Once I implement a new strategy I like to track it for a while to see if it is working for me. I have found that some don’t work at all, so I ditch those ideas and try a new one. The ones that are pulling in those most new list members are the ones I try to focus more time on improving.
What are some of your favorite list-building ideas and how do you get a handle on new ideas?
