This post is the first in a series of how to build a brand for your business. A brand is another way of answering why are you in business, what are you offering, and what impression do you want your customers to get from you.
When someone provides a service for their business, they usually have a strong reason for choosing what they do. Why did you choose the business you chose? Why do you offer the service you do? What are you really in business for?
Every business should clearly state what it stands for, which is also the same as saying what you want to be known for. You may want to be known for solving a certain problem in your industry, or you may want to be known for providing a certain lifestyle for your clients or for providing a certain experience.
For example, A car company might want to be known for safety, speed or reliability. A candle company might want to be known for creating relaxing scents or for freshening up a room. A health consultant might want to be known for creating more energy.
What you stand for is different than your mission, and it’s more than just what you do. What you stand for answers the question: What is the number one experience that I am providing for my customers?
For example, my mission for Cereus Women is to teach moms how to turn their skills and talents into a successful home based service business. This is what I do.
What I stand for is passion, love, and a better family lifestlye.
I change not only my client’s lives, but her whole family’s lifestyle. I help moms to find a way to have something that they are passionate about that they can call their own at the same time that they are providing an income. Instead of just having a hobby, they can have a business. By building a business they can run from home, they can be there to nurture their children. Children learn to love when they are home with those that they love.
