StartupNation wanted to recognize women’s amazing abilities, stamina and achievements in building businesses. Many mothers feel a need to start a business because they realize that it could offer them the freedom and flexibility to run the business while raising and nurturing a family.
StartupNation held a competition to find the 200 top leading moms in business. They searched through thousands of mothers who self-nominated themselves for the contest. They proceeded to let America choose their favorite contestants. There were over 620,000 votes.
Their overwhelming response for contestants and especially visits to the website from voters and others interested in the competition was much more than they expected.
I think their response just proves how involved mothers are in wishing to form businesses that will allow them to be home with their children. Women have a desire to work, but know a typical job just doesn’t fit into the lifestyle that they are choosing for their family.
