This post is the fourth in a series of how to build a brand for your business. A brand is another way of answering why are you in business, what are you offering, and what impression do you want your customers to get from you.
No matter where you are trying to market your business, whether it is online or offline, you are just one element in the huge sea. Think of all the fish in the sea. I don’t know about you, but if I am going to be noticed in that sea, I need to be a shark or a whale. They are large creatures.
You need a way to stand out from all the noise and all the other fish. What is going to make your potential clients or customers hear YOU, see YOU, buy from YOU?
The most important thing you should do when deciding how to be unique is to come up with a list of your qualities and characteristics. If you are selling a service, you should list YOUR qualities. If you are selling a line of products, then you should list your product’s qualities.
What are your special strengths? What are your special talents? What have you done lately that makes you stand out? What do people come to you for when they are looking for advice?
Once you have a list of qualities and characteristics, you then have a list of what makes you unique from everyone else. Play up on these qualities. Use them as you build your brand. Use them as you develop your products and services. Make everyone know what your qualities and special characteristics are. Decide which ones you could improve on and make them even better and more unique.
What is it that you or your product is better at than everyone else? If you can’t find any characteristics that make your service or product different than your competitors, then you need to dig deeper. How can you improve on your service to make it stand out?
I have 3 main qualities that I tap into when providing services and products for Cereus Women. They are a strong technical background, an ability to be self-confident despite jumping out of my comfort zone, and experience finding a balance between my business, my family and my own time.
I utilize these 3 qualities when I help my clients grow their businesses. They are what makes me stand out from my competitors.
