Want to start a business but you’re not sure where to begin? Already have a business but you aren’t sure how to grow it to the level you want? This is where mentors and role models come into play. Learning from others is an old art. Our children learn from their parents and their teachers everyday. We even tend to model others when we learn social etiquette.
Most successful people have mentors that help them to learn the ropes. It’s great to learn from someone who has already done what you are seeking to do. You can learn from their successes and from their mistakes.
Mentors can be called many things. You may have heard of the phrases role model, mastermind group, dream team, coach, teacher. Whatever you want to call it, these are all doing the same thing; helping you to learn from other people to become a success.
Tony Robbins takes mentoring to another level. He says that you don’t just want to listen to what they have to say; you want to get inside their head. You want to mimic what they do and really learn how they think.
It’s great to have a special mentor that you really click with and that you can bounce ideas off of whenever you need to, but finding that one person to help you whenever you need them is very rare. In most cases, you will find that you have multiple mentors depending on the area of help or the topic in question. If we look at our children, we notice they have teachers to help them learn math and reading. They model their friends to help them learn how to get along with others. They model their parents to learn how to grow up to be a good adult.
For myself, I look to different people to model depending on the area of my life, as well. I have role models to help me build a great relationship with my husband. I have a mentor to bounce ideas off of for my sales pages. I have mentors teaching me how to market my business.
I know how hard it is to find good mentors. What can be even more challenging is taking what you learn from them and applying it to your own business and your own situation. I’m about to launch a special program, so stay tuned for ways that you can use mentoring to jump-start your skills into a full-blown, successful business.
