Does your child go to day care? My son went for about a year when he was a baby. I always thought that I would be one of those moms who always worked. My mom worked in a day care center, so I figured there was nothing wrong with sending your child to day care. People everywhere were doing it.
Now I think for some people day care is a necessity. I understand that. For me, day care was a nightmare. I cried at dropoff. I cried at pickup. My son was supposedly in the best center in town. That didn’t seem to matter.
They would leave him alone in a room strapped in a seat that was 2 sizes too small for him while other parents were coming and going. They would let him cry for an hour after he woke from a nap. He got bit by another child, and the center never reported it in their accident report file which was a requirement by the state. They cut his nails so short one day that he was bleeding. Why were they even cutting his nails anyway?
Needless to say, he didn’t last at that center very long. But if your son is going to one of the best where else do you send him?
I sent my son home. I quit my job. I couldn’t take it anymore. I was missing out on the fun stuff of having a child and turning it into a job where I was managing the people taking care of him.
That was when I decided to go off on my own and freelance. It was the best decision I ever made. My son was now home with me. I worked during nap time and bedtime. I had a nanny (a really nice college student) who came in twice a week to help out.
I needed to work for the money, but I also needed to be there for my son. Ever since I was 12, I had wanted to have my own business. For me, having a son gave me a really good reason to quit my safe, secure, high-paying job and follow my dream. It turned into a win-win situation for everyone, and I never looked back!
What are your dreams? Are your future goals in alignment with your dreams and talents? If not, we should talk.
