Cereus Women is actually the fourth business that I have been involved in as an owner. My first business was selling Avon in High School for 4 years. It wouldn’t have paid the bills, but I certainly had plenty of money for going out with my friends. I even got discounts on my own makeup, which is important for someone who wore it everyday.
If you talk to my mother, she would tell you that selling painted pet rocks as paper weights was my first real adventure in the business world. Little did I know at that young age that most people really didn’t want the rocks, but let me tell you, I sold all 10 rocks in under 20 minutes! Not bad for someone brand new at door-to-door selling. Of course, my cute looks and big, toothy smile was probably what really did the trick.
As an adult I have been involved in several business endeavors. Cereus Women is my newest adventure and to be honest, it is much different than I originally set out for it to be. It has evolved as I learn more about myself and more about my target audience. It is a work in progress as every business is.
But I have to say, it doesn’t matter how many businesses I start, and it doesn’t matter how much money I earn, I am still surrounded by fear. Every stage brings on a new kind of fear. Each time I delve deeper into a business, the fear of failure overcomes me. What I do know is that fear creeps up on everyone! It’s what you do with that fear that determines your success.
One of the things that separate successful people from the average person is that they embrace their fears. They acknowledge their fear and use it as leverage to propel themselves forward.
When I first decided to start Cereus Women I was petrified. I was leaving a career I knew really well and one where I had built a big name for myself. I was moving into a new life. I was following what felt right for me, but I have to admit it was a giant step. I have my mission and my goals and that is what I concentrate on when the fear starts to take hold.
