I have to tell you this story. The other day I was on google searching for an image that I could use in my newsletter. I searched on “baby new year” thinking I would get tons of images on, you know, baby new year, and possibly a bunch of babies.
Well, it is always rather interesting when I do a google image search to see what comes up. You always have to prepare yourself for anything. In these particular results there was an image of a very chubby guy wearing something that looked like a toga only half-draped on his body. Why on earth did this image appear when searching on “baby new year”? I wondered.
I was intrigued enough to actually click on the image. I just thought it was going to take me to some social site talking about a new year’s eve party. It didn’t. The website that owned this image contained other photos. All of which were images of chubby men. Now this was starting to look wierd. What’s with these photos?
As it turns out the website was a blog, but not at all what I expected. It was a Chubarama blog dedicated to the beauty of big men. Big men who like other big men. Well, I would have to say that I didn’t know this existed.
Lessons learned:
1. There really is a blog out there for everything…EVERYTHING. Not sure what to write on your blog? Just pick your target audience and start talking. As long as it’s entertaining or educating your readers, your target market, then it doesn’t matter.
2. If there are advertisers and sponsors willing to sponsor the Chubarama site, and there are, then there are people out there willing to sponsor anything. The two key elements are traffic and networking. Network with enough people to find ones that are interested, then prove to them what they need to hear: that your traffic is worth their while and their marketing bucks.
