As a marketing coach, I have noticed many business owners wanting to create a fan page. They create it, but then they aren’t sure what to do next. FaceBook fan pages are a great way to communicate with your prospects and to generate buzz about your business. However, like any marketing strategy, you need to define your purpose before that strategy can be effective and used to it’s best advantage.
Before you setup a fan page or post an update on your existing fan page, think about why you are doing it. What do you hope to achieve from your FaceBook fan page? If you said that you would like to get more fans, then think deeper. Many people aren’t sure why they want a fan page, they just feel they should have one because everyone says they work great at getting more business. This is true only when done with a defined purpose. What is the end result that you would like to achieve from your fan page?
Let’s say that you create the page, you start posting updates, you get some fans, then what? What do you want your fans to do? Here are some examples of what you might want your fans to do when they visit your fan page:
- Go to your website to learn more about your business.
- Visit your blog and make a comment.
- Read your updates to get to know you more and learn what you have to offer.
- Build a sense of trust and bonding between you and your prospects.
- Use your fan page as a resource to ask and answer questions.
- Create discussions and communicate with your other fans.
These are just some examples of what you might want to do with your fan page. Pick one main purpose and focus on that purpose when you are posting your updates. Each marketing strategy in your marketing plan serves different purposes. Take a look at the marketing strategies you are already using and determine what might be missing that your FaceBook fan page could do for your business. Once you have your fan page purpose, focus most of your status updates on that purpose.
By keeping this focus, you will notice that you are achieving your goals faster, you will find it easier to decide what to post on your fan page, and you will keep your fans happy because they will know what to expect from your page.
I would love to hear all the different ways that you are using your fan pages. Please share your purpose by making a comment to the post. Not only will I get to hear all your different reasons, but you will get exposure to your fan page url.
