I love it! I received a special email from someone on my email list a few months ago. I always love getting to know you if you are on my email list.
This wonderful woman Ritzya was very excited and inspired to write because she had a “cereus” question for me.
As it turns out, she actually owns a Cereus plant, it was blooming and she wanted to share the beauty with me. How cool is that! I was so excited to hear about this plant. Her email immediately peaked my interest. Living in New England makes it a little difficult to experience cacti, so it was a joy to hear from Ritzya and experience the flowering through her.
Here’s the thing. The name of my business Cereus Women comes from this plant. You can read about where the name of my business comes from here.
Her particular Cereus plant, a night-blooming cactus flower, has been handed down a couple generations through her family. Her grandfather owned the plant originally and gave it to her mother years ago. About 35 years ago her mother gave her a cutting of the plant that she has kept and nurtured all this time.
Here’s what I know about these cacti:
They grow gorgeous, white flowers only once a year! And they bloom overnight! If you sleep through the blooming, you miss out on all the beauty.
Over the years Ritzya has learned how to spot when the flower is going to bloom. There is a process. Like all flowers, they start out as a bud and slowly open over the course of a few days until pop… the flower fully opens and blossoms in all its glory. Only when you are watching and paying attention, will you get the chance to see the flower at its most beautiful.
Once morning arrives, the release of the flower’s beauty is complete, and the flower begins to wilt.
One of the many things I love about the name of my business is the analogy between the flower and the blossoming of a woman through her business.
As I work with women entrepreneurs to help them get more clients for their business, I notice there are two types of people.
There are those who sleepwalk through their entire life just taking the steps that people tell them to take without really thinking about the bigger picture of what they really want to get out of life, and there are those who pay attention to opportunities that surround them and take action on ones they know are going to bring them closer to their goals.
Which type are you? Which type would you like to be?
You may decide that you are in between both types, so really think about which type you lean more towards.
Be honest with yourself as you answer the question.
Ritzya looks forward to the opportunity of experiencing the Cereus flower each year, so she pays attention to the process. She watches for the bud, waits, and then pays attention to the exact night and moment when the flower is going to pop open.
In your business, are you paying attention to the process? Do you seize the right opportunities that come your way that bring you closer to the success you desire?
Or do you tend to procrastinate? Wait to take the action? Or even seize the wrong opportunities that pull you farther away from your goals?
